bCA joins the art community in mourning the death of M F Husain

MUMBAI, India, June 9 2011 — One of the most prominent artists and founders of Indian Contemporary Art, Maqbool Fida Husain died at the Royal Brompton hospital in London on Thursday, 9th June 2011, at 2:30am. Suffering from lung congestion he succumbed at the age of 95. Referred to as the "Picasso of India" by the Forbes magazine, he grabbed headlines recently when one of his paintings sold for Rs 2.32 crore at the Bonham's auction in London. Unfortunately, this artist who was world renowned was forced to die in exile due to the violent backlash of right wing political groups to some of his paintings portraying Hindu deities.
