Comments:
Sketching is a passion for me. In my art, I have always found sketching the whole form more expressive than actually detailing features like eyes, mouth or nose. I have sketched human forms extensively in my profession as well as to express my art. But over time, the human form has lost its attraction for me when sketching.
While looking for a new subject, I came across a few stray dogs. Their gestures, their body language intrigued me and I sketched them for fun, thinking it was just a passing fancy. But the next time I picked up my pencil, i found myself compelled to paint these dogs again. The first painting was a pastel sketch, but soon these intriguing creatures became my subject. The canine forms I draw today have evolved from that first pastel sketch. In my recent work, the forms I paint have no features like eyes or a jaw as these are representative of the “dogness” of these forms. Instead, I have used the canine form to convey human emotions. My focus is to express human emotion, but removed from all the tangible things that give form to the human expression
