THEME of ''BULL'' PAINTINGS
It is not a story about going offbeat or denying things happenings around, but a strong belief in indigenous within self. To be stylized is always a dream of all artists. But it is always seen that once you get stylized and there is a lot of so many attitudes - loss of individualism. Coming out of Academy with full of grammar and being established is our convention. But I strongly believe in emerging out individually with indigenous thoughts - get improvised, go through a lot uncultured process and let the process be continued - than to be stamped as any identity. Alike! Here in my Paintings, I have been always an introvert, thinking about the journey of improvisation, the progress, and evolution of MANKIND. Since the cave age till to the civilized cultured man today, the ELEMENT of indigenousness didn’t and does not become a matter of change - about the BULL. Rather the bull is a factor throughout his development though uncultured till today. I found the ‘LINE’ as a strong punch of inspiration behind my work. Since our fore father till today all artists carry and deliver lines at first, than any further application on painting. Again, I selected charcoal than pencil. Pencil is a cultured form of specific universal taste of graphite, while charcoal an indigenous uncultured material was being used in that caveman creation till today - like bull. Charcoal reflects the variations of evolutions while graphite does not. So, my line, my subject, my medium all emerged out of my mind by a spontaneous indigenousness. As well as I think and consider that, as a artist my improvisation, progress, maturity and command should go parallel to the subject of my painting as a thought. 2001 and 2006 - two of my Jehangir shows are the slots, in this process. Simplification, freedom, textural variation and so on can be said about explaining my work, but I have not done so, to relate any academic presentation. Rather, I strongly believe in being uncultured while painting. Therefore, even there are no conventional criteria applied while designing frames of open space and form. In 2001 I completed a series of pure charcoal sketches as my paintings. I consider my blank canvas as if it were the uncultured mind of our cave man. And the pure charcoal lines indicate the improvised realistic images of the caveman’s observation of the same. The last painting of the first series is added with a little tint, indicating the beginning of his haunting passion of expressionist. In the Series of 2006, the basic elements carry an addition of grades of earthy yellow-brown & black clours. These paintings are his solace for expression. Therefore I’ve tried to find the uncultured surface. Later on a little variation of colours emphasize his survival friction, expressing extrovert, his erotism, his impulse, though being strongly fittest to the survival. The bull, the man and the journey of both are hand in hand in the development of mankind; individually and together since the evolution period till today’s civilized man and would continue further. Alike! Charcoal, lines and Artist and off course me indigenously. |
